π€ Proper β80s Cowboy Style
An original 1980s Rustler short sleeve Western shirt in a great brown, beige, grey and black plaid. This one has plenty of period character, including subtle glittering metallic threads woven through the fabric β just enough flash to catch the light without turning the whole thing into a rhinestone rodeo.
The cut is unmistakably Western, with angular shoulder yokes, pearl snaps and two wonderfully β80s sawtooth chest pockets. The plaid is used diagonally across the yokes, pockets and placket for extra visual punch.
π Rustler β Wranglerβs Hard-Working Cousin
Rustler was introduced by Blue Bell in 1979, the same company behind Wrangler, as a more affordable, mass-market jeans and Western wear label. When VF Corporation acquired Blue Bell in 1986, both Wrangler and Rustler became part of the same enormous American jeanswear family.
Rustler was positioned below Wrangler in price, but retained the rugged, distinctly American Western character of its more famous stablemate. That combination of affordability, cowboy styling and decades of everyday wear is precisely what makes old Rustler pieces fun today: they are genuine working-class Western wear rather than modern reproductions of it.
